For the occasion, over 400 lots will be sold, including important examples of African and Latin American Art, the majority of lots being property of two historic European collections, a French collection and the other Austrian.
It is an interesting sale both for the quality and for the variety of works of art, for example beautiful Nigerian bronzes, rare wooden sculpture, important masks, a collection of African “oliphants”, Taino sculpture, Native American sculpture etc..
With this auction, San Giorgio plans to close a gap in the panorama of Italian auctions, giving space to that extraordinary artistic production commonly classified as “Tribal Art”, which until today is a field of art known only to a cultured and refined public, that is still a rather too small a minority. An unlimited universe, where aesthetic values combine with magic and faith to be counted amongst the most powerful and pure of artistic forms in the history of man.
