The Palazzo located at the “Croce di Canneto” was rebuilt in the XVII century by the Centurione family on an already exiting site of the town houses belonging to the Scoti and Castagna families, it is once mentioned in the official town architectural register under the name of Gio. Batta Centurione, Doge from 1658- 1660.
Taken over by the Boggiano family in the XVIII century, the entrance from the Canneto was modified in 1843 to be on the new street (today the via San Lorenzo) and for the occasion the building was given an amplified, new façade. The large, neoclassical loggia and frieze are thanks to the literary and patriarchal figure Lorenzo Costa, commissioned in 1860 to Santo Varni. At the south side, a bridge passes over a historical crossroads and connects the palace to a terrace enlivened by an arbour and by a nymphaeum with a statue of Venus.
The monumental staircase, which leads from the atrium to the fourth floor, has remained almost unchanged and leads to the numerous apartments and offices in which the palace is now divided. |
